With the clarity and insight of a cultural critic, Chris Arvidson bears witness to the pathos, comedy, and absurdity of growing older and the joyous freedom to say what she thinks, even if nobody seems to care. But we do care. She calls BS on the mundane daily flotsam that wearies us, frustrates us, and–with the right irreverent attitude–entertains us, while she also explores the past sorrows and sweet spots that have shaped us. Nobody Cares What You Think is a frank and sometimes funny take on what it is to be human. Don’t miss it.

–Darnell Arnoult, author of Incantations: Poems

This sassy book of poems brims with feistiness and reflection. Arvidson reminds us, being alive is fascinating and entails questioning the bittersweet world. “Every time I think of you, I remember your delights,” Arvidson writes. Nobody Cares What You Think doesn’t need our consent but invites us to enjoy the journey.

–Phillip Shabazz, author, When the Grass Was Blue

In Nobody Cares What You Think, Chris Arvidson wields wit that burns slow like coal, expands like the redemption song of a resurgent ember. Somehow, Chris manages to give a unique voice to the amorphous time-mirror we all face, it tells us “in the light / nothing is reminiscent of your own image.” This vibrant & meaningful collection invites the reader to follow, become, replace and retrace footsteps, to understand about life (and poems)—as the poet does—“the trick with endings is to…let them be what they are…”

–Junious ‘Jay’ Ward, Poet Laureate of Charlotte NC, and author of Composition

Nobody Cares What You Think, from poet Chris Arvidson, goes right on ahead and tells you exactly and frankly what she thinks. The poems speak about the absurdity and the glory of living a life in our present and observe how our pasts shape us. Highlighting the silly and the sublime, the poems navigate the reader along a path, helping us figure out how we can move through our world with a modicum of self-awareness, and maybe even a little grace.

Chris Arvidson is the author of the poetry chapbook The House Inside My Head (Finishing Line Press) and has co-edited three anthologies in which her work appears: Mountain Memoirs: An Ashe County Anthology (Main Street Rag), Reflections on the New River: New Essays, Poems and Personal Stories (McFarland), and The Love of Baseball: Essays by Lifelong Fans (McFarland). She has published essays and poetry in magazines and journals. She holds a B.A. from Olivet University, an M.A. from UNC Charlotte, and an M.F.A. from Goucher College.
