Touring the Stars by Betty Les

In Betty Les’s book “Touring the Stars,“ we see the genius of her ability to take her keen observational skills as a scientist into the imagistic world she creates in her poems.

When she writes, in “Time Crawled Out of the Ocean,” she posits that humans possibly reset “their sense of time, toward mystery / toward /connection.” And that is what Betty does for us, she resets time and lets her meticulous observations take us beyond reality to the mystery and connections that she makes of this vast universe.  She observes the single flower, the particular animal, the named tree, and using imagery that is both surprising and exact, enables us to see what we so often miss; she sees the connections, taking us with her into her beautiful poetry, seemingly simple, but truly profound.

When you read Betty Les’s poems, give yourself time, time to be quiet, allow yourself to enter another view of the “things of this world” as you tour the stars with a magical guide.
