The Grain Beneath the Gloss by Katherine Edgren

$19.99

In The Grain Beneath the Gloss, Katherine Edgren takes the reader on an intimate trek of secrets and honesties hidden beyond and beneath the “facts.” This trek leads us to unanticipated truths about ourselves and our world that are laced with pain and beauty. Mixing storytelling with the sophistication and grace of a teacher, Edgren invites us to “unfocus and see.” Upon completion of this poetry collection, you will not be able to see the State of Michigan, trees, church, or Mother’s Day the same way. Her poetry “lured [me] like a famished fish” to stop and receive the lesson gifted in each poem.

–Leslie McGraw, Social Media Specialist and Poet, author of Emergencies of the Heart (2015)

Poems in The Grain Beneath the Gloss reveal subtleties and pattern in natural surroundings, sharply observed and cherished. They convey uncanny appreciation for meaningful daily experience—particularly the charms of northern Michigan, ranging from “the Humongous Fungus” to a woman’s consummate fishing poem, “Reverie on the Invisible Twitch.”

–Edward Morin, Translator and Poet, author of Housing for Wrens (2016)
