Heidi Hemmer‘s tightly woven poems shows us the social situations of the people living in our modern world.  Each poem expresses a state of the human condition; each containing elements of truth and surprise.”

–Ronald J. Palmer, editor of Martin Lake Journal

“Were I to review Surface Textures I would compare its poems to Ted Kooser’s and Billy Collins’.  They are accessible but each requires a few minutes to climb and descend its colorful arc of emotion.  If you find yourself wanting more after reaching the end of Surface Textures don’t worry, there are more layers to be enjoyed upon your second and even third reads”

–Michael G. Dean, author of Seashells
