At a time when humanity seems more and more at odds with the rest of creation, John Wright‘s poems call us to the poignancy and necessity of nature. The Loveliness of This World speaks to a specific location, a two-acre Eden set against northwest forest, where cedar stumps and Indian plum co-exist with daffodils. But the arc of these poems stretches much farther. The poet, a retired physician, reflects on trees long since diagnosed with rot and taken down, walks with his Labrador retriever, a cup of morning coffee with his wife, wine with old friends, and he writes. Then he shares the loveliness and solace of these poems with us, his lucky readers.

–Bethany Reid, author of Body My House: Poems

John Wright‘s poems observe nature acutely, bringing intense beauty to the page, and they are spiritually insightful, drawing connections between our own lives and those in the garden and woods. The Loveliness of This World is an elegiac, astute, elegant work, deeply joyful, and deeply felt.

–Priscilla Long, author of Crossing Over: Poems
