The poems on “glass mountain” take us to the mysterious, sensual, and sometimes humorous place that sustains and gives dimension to our everyday lives—the place where “our dreams pray for us”, we lullaby those we have forgotten, and our healing medicine is found in alliance with other lives. The journey up glass mountain is a sometimes slippery but always revelatory one that allows us to lift our glass to the light– making transparent both our wounds and our destination toward beauty and joy.
Madronna Holden’s poetry has appeared in The Christian Science Monitor, American Writing, Equinox Poetry and Prose, The Bitter Oleander, the Clackamas Literary Review, Windfall, The Timberline Review, and many others. Poems in her recent series of poem/painting duets with painter David Wolfersberger have appeared in the Cold Mountain Review, Puerto del Sol, The Slippery Elm Literary Journal, the Chestnut Review, the Santa Clara Review, and elsewhere. Her poetry won the local Pacifica Prize for two years’ running and her poetry drama, The Descent of Inanna, was the subject of a documentary aired on Oregon Public Television.

Madronna’s poetry is
etched into the fabric of our family’s consciousness.
Mundane moments translated into ineffable, lyrical symphonies of startling recognition, acceptance and belonging.
Elegant turning of the prosaic edgewise, so the light shines through.

Madronna’s poetry partakes of the mythic, with a deep sensibility to the wonder of the natural world. I am very much looking forward to reading more.

Madronna’s poetry is exquisitely descriptive, tying our Earth experience into all of nature and clarifying how we cannot be separate from our mother planet. It has dreamlike qualities which add an extra dimension to the concrete plain we live on. I love how this is more than an experience of reading or listening. It engulfs us and asks us to join in to an inner vision.
