Cindy Milwe was born and raised in Westport, Connecticut and now lives in Venice, California. She earned her BA from NYU’s Gallatin Division, her MA in English Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College, and her MFA in Poetry from Bennington College. She has worked for three decades in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District as an English teacher, yoga teacher, poetry workshop facilitator, writing interventionist, literacy coach, and instructional coach. In the last 30 years, her poems have been published in numerous journals, magazines, and anthologies, and she has received several awards, including the Parent/Writer Fellowship at the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing for her poem, “Legacy,” the Myra Shapiro Prize for Poetry for her poem, “Hunger,” and a Pushcart Prize nomination for her poem, “Memorial.” This is her first book.
