What isn’t, after all, episodic? What doesn’t require an agile heart as we volley among ills and disasters, living as we do now, one eye on the past and another on the future, with laughable knowledge of our suffering? The Inevitable Return of What We Do Not Love rallies the world of everyday threats, pitfalls, and depressions and traverses its topography, wandering and wondering in the interims how we might be bolstered through movement itself “to wear the pattern out / & about / to unbury the thought / from its outcome.”
Julie Choffel is the author of the The Hello Delay (Fordham, 2012) and winner of the Poets Out Loud prize. Her poems can be found in New American Writing, Posit, Orion, Barrow Street, Interim, Salamander, and the tiny, among other places. Originally from Austin, Texas, she currently lives near Hartford and teaches at the University of Connecticut.
