As academic and/or foreign service officer, Pat Sharpe has lived and worked in Pakistan and Indonesia as well as many other countries where Muslims make up a considerable percentage of the population. She has also studied Islam. Her two previous volumes of poetry are A Partial Rainbow Makes No Sense and Coming and Going Love. She was also principal translator for Four Walls and a Black Veil by Pakistani poet Fahmida Riaz.
