In this inaugural collection, Natalia Prusinska investigates the impact of unrelenting, chronic memories, indecision and choice, and a desperation for life. The poems lurch forward—sudden flare-ups of trauma, poverty, hope, elation, and queer experience. In Hard Jolts of Hope Natalia writes with impulse and verve. In the same poem, the speaker brings up drunk sexting, “caching desire in texts”, and God; she integrates physics and theology in memory, speaking of love in one poem as “high-energy collisions between particles of ordinary matter”. She throws readers over her shoulders and carries them to new places, whether they’re ready or not.
Natalia Prusinska is a queer, Polish American poet. Her poetry has been found in publications such as Storm Cellar and High Shelf Press.
