These poems are dispatches from fault lines, and are by turns strange and familiar, bitter and rueful. Hunger Anthem likes to hear itself talk in a voice that hectors, despairs, and self-rationalizes. It’s the voice of a lie echoing a truth it can’t quite utter, confessing nothing in what it declares and everything in what it denies.
Joseph Helminski was born in Detroit and teaches English at Oakland Community College in Oakland County, Michigan. This is his first book.
