Mixed media book artist and poet Deborah Arnold creates one-of-a-kind notecards and journals, and teaches writing as a practice engaged through the book arts, including pop-up book structures. Her chapbook The Interview with the Willow Girls was a finalist for the New Women’s Voices Prize (Finishing Line Press, 2015), and her poem “Hieroglyphs” was selected for the 2015 Random Acts of Poetry Award at the University of Delaware. Her poetry also appears in Passager and Mezzo Cammin. She lives in Elkton, Maryland.
The Interview with the Willow Girls is a chapbook of poems linked like chapters in a story about two girls whose parents claim to be the lovers whose own story is memorialized in the Blue Willow pattern that adorns their porcelain dinner plates. How we tell our family stories – the myths and the truth intertwined – is at the heart of the poems as the girls retell the story they’ve inherited, with the plates as their compass.
