“In Magpie Mornings, Liegel creates an invitation into her world that crackles with hope and wonder. Liegel renders a natural world of changing seasons with both spareness and expansiveness. These poems are songs and letters. They are rivers and rain.”

–Casandra López, author of Brother Bullet

“Intimate, evocative, potent, honest, and healing. Liegel explores both inner and outer landscapes with a keen eye and a wise heart. Her poems deftly weave threads of love and loss, joy and sorrow, depth and lightness into a bright and beautiful tapestry.”

–Kai Siedenburg, Ecotherapist and author of Poems of Earth and Spirit and Space Between the Stones

“Liegel’s poetry takes the reader into a wild and vivid world where the window is always left open. Residing above the limits of sentimentality, Liegel’s work collides past and present and carries the reader along a tactile journey of self-discovery. Liegel’s language reminds us that the world is beyond a place where we simply exist. It is a place that we must feel and breathe and taste.”

–Katerina Canyon, author of Surviving Home

Lora Liegel lives in Bellingham, Washington, the ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples. She lives with her wife and two children. Liegel is a writer, poet, and community connector.

Liegel’s writing focuses on the complex relationships we have with each other, ourselves, and with nature. With vulnerability that gently envelops the reader, she invites us to examine familial connections and ask questions about our own origin stories. Liegel’s work has been informed by her extensive work and experience in the outdoors – on the trail, at farms, along the ocean, and in the great forests of the Pacific Northwest.

Liegel is also the author of Second Parent: a memoir and creator of the Second Parent Project which connects lesbian and queer, non-biological mothers online. She holds an MA in Social Science. More at loraliegel.com

What a beautiful collection of poems that invites us into the outdoors and inside ourselves at the same time. Lora paints beautiful portraits of damp forests and crashing waves, and takes us through the highest and lowest emotions. I already look forward to reading this again.
