“”This is a powerful and courageous book. It’s funny, lucid, contains not a dollop of self-pity and, to paraphrase a line of her own: it’s got some rumba on its tongue!”

–Thomas Lux, Margaret T. and Henry C. Bourne, Jr. Chair in Poetry at Georgia Institute of Technology.

Man Done Gone is a marvel. The real world is everywhere in this book: chairs, cars, papaya, robes, cats and dogs. But Lynn Alexander is up to something else: she’s that rare breed; a poet who writes about relationships unsentimentally in clear, concise language. Her images carry a sometimes heavy freight, the way a poem is supposed to, with speed and grace.”

–Ron Kolm, author of Divine Comedy, editor of the Evergreen Review.

Lynn Alexander‘s poems have the softness and illusory depth of a basket of clean laundry. Here the everyday objects of our lives are invested with the power to say what is “left unsaid.” There is such a gentle kindness in the way these poems touch the world that we long to be touched ourselves–and find our wish is granted.”

–Dan Veach, editor of Atlanta Review and author of Elephant Water.

Man Done Gone is a beautiful book of poems by Lynn Alexander. I read the book in one sitting, because once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. My favorite poem was, My Father Sold Life Insurance,an ironic poem that finds her father selling life insurance door to door, telling folks how important is is to have it, but not having any of his own. The title of the book, Man Done Gone is reflected in a number of poems where the author describes love relationships that didn’t work out. Like poet Thomas Lux is quoted as saying on the back cover of the book it, “contains not a dollop of self-pity,” despite love relationships not working out. If you are a lover of poetry, you will love this book. It is full of straight forward poems, many with a slight touch of humor. Pick up a copy for yourself. You will be glad that you did!!
