Mountains, Rivers and Heavens
by Karen M. Balch
$14, paper
Karen M. Balch, born and raised in the snowbelt region of Upstate New York, changed scenery by wandering into a place where the horizon is large, and gave her room to focus on her writing. She began a new adventure in New Mexico that included a husband and traveling.
In 2005, Balch’s poetry chapbook, Mountains, Rivers and Heavens, was published by Finishing Line Press. Once the Editor-in-Chief of Miners’ Ink, New Mexico Tech’s student-organized literary journal, she has also been the Guest Editor of Issue #58 in the Santa Fe Poetry Broadside, and has several poems and a short story published.
Karen presented her poetry (along with The Tenth Muse Poetry Collaboratorium), and an excerpt from her novel, Stricken, at the 2010 RMMLA Convention. Her work was featured as the RMMLA Authors and Poets Read Their Work (fiction and poetry) panel at the 2013 RMMLA Convention in Vancouver, Washington. She is scheduled to read at the 2015 RMMLA Conference in Santa Fe, NM.
Her full-length poetry collection, Somewhere Between the Adirondacks and Catskills, I Got Lost in New Mexico (May 2013). Ebook coming soon.
Balch presented her work, and lead a poetry workshop at the 2013 Southwest Book Fiesta in Albuquerque.
She continues to work on several projects: her memoir, a bilingual poetry book, a children’s book, and more.
In her spare time, she serves on several commmittees for an international organization, is passionate about breast cancer awareness, and seeks solitude on the golf course. She aspires to become a world traveler and is inspired by the places she has visited.
