Brems has a truly remarkable power, she offers up to readers the raw beauty and majesty of nature, exposing them to daffodils, rivers and the moon in new and exciting ways. “With yellow faces like champions in their midst / serving spring nectar to hungry pollinators” flowers work with the sun and the bees; the moon is queenly yet modest “her edges soft and unpretentious / hardly regal in their journey”. In mud-slides, rot and dying bridges are exposed in their dangerous beauty, the feared absence oak goddesses’ disrupts the balance of the air itself and after reading Brems poems, you’ll believe banana spots to be the most gorgeous living pattern. I would highly recommend her work to new poetry-readers and veterans alike.”

I found myself captivated by the simplicity and depth of these poems, the way they brought the everyday to life with words and phrases that stuck with me. These are pieces that appear quotidian but reveal deeper truths. You’ll want to read them more than once to connect with the power and emotion lurking under their surfaces.

–Audrey Kalman, author of the short fiction collection Tiny Shoes Dancing and Other Stories and the novels What Remains Unsaid and Dance of Souls.
