Still Birth by Mara Faulkner, OSB

Mara Faulkner’s beautiful verse in her new collection STILL BIRTH goes deeper than most of us are able without weighing the reader down. In the poem “In the Garden” the narrator tells of a summer day singing in the garden, “The single monarch doesn’t listen…/ but it doesn’t have to./ It’s already as quiet as snow floating/ with one beat of its orange and black wings/ from a peach/ to a lavender/ to a burgundy zinnia.” Each poem in this chapbook is as profound as it is beautiful.
