The Boy Born With A Pinhole Heart chronicles the members of a family through one boy’s perspective. Following the chapbook’s title poem, the successive poems focus on the grandfather as he returns from his military service in World War II, plays cribbage with his grandson, and then ultimately succumbs to dementia. After his grandfather’s death, the boy navigates adolescence and young adulthood. During this time, he wrestles with his great-uncle being sexually molested as a boy and his mother’s depression that leads to her death. From this trauma, the boy born with a pinhole heart discovers the man he is meant to be.
