The Boy with a Sledgehammer for a Heart by Lex Bobrow

$13.99

Lex Bobrow’s debut into the world of lyric elegy and modern myth is a startling one—for its unsparing, at times savage, honesty, and for the beauty of a language that both transports and transforms. The subject of love is fractured, the subject of loss turned over and over like a gemstone in the hand. The maker of these myths is at times elusive and at times boldly staring the reader in the eye. This is a book for the courageous among us, with poems that unsettle even as they comfort. A powerful debut, indeed!

–Maureen Seaton, author of Fibonacci Batman: New and Selected Poems

It takes grave sentimental risk to write about the heart, and Lex Bobrow is as vulnerable as he is brave in these poems, writing “a little denser, a little more lustrous,” with convincing magic, not about but within that vexed chamber.

The Boy with a Sledgehammer for a Heart

by Lex Bobrow

$13.99, paper

Lex Bobrow is a graduate of the University of Miami creative writing program and lives in south Florida with and near his loved ones. A writer by day and a writer by night, he loves a well-crafted cartoon and kisses so potent they warp the fabric of space-time.

In 20 years, you’ll find him hiding in the Alcázar of Seville, scribbling love notes to gravity and the way she bites her lip, or in the Florida Keys kayaking through the mangroves where he makes his home. Perhaps he’ll have a vacation cottage on the moon, but the ocean, the ocean will always call him back until he really does go home. Bury him in a garden by the Atlantic Ocean with a perpetual music box on his gravestone.

Lex is the winner of the 2012 Laurence Donovan Prize in Poetry, and you can find his work in Mangrove Literary Journal,Black Heart Magazine, Maudlin House, Hermeneutic Chaos,Wingbeats II: Exercises and Practice in Poetry, Literary Sexts: A Collection of Short & Sexy Love Poems Vol I, and a few other magazines.
