The Color of Winter by Eve Forti

Eve Forti’s poems put one in the moment. She captures the beauty and depth of an instant in time. Her descriptions of things she sees are like the brushwork of an artist, filling the reader with color and imagination. Indeed, she is an artist with words. In her latest book, The Color of Winter, her images are so thought provoking that upon reading the poem “A Dream Meeting With Anne Frank” I could not hold back the tears. Her images are profound and simply but beautifully described. In “Wings” “wild geese soar…wings flapping like so many linen handkerchiefs/ like fine ladies waving  au revoir at the start of a long ocean voyage.” I think from time to time of the  poem “Peonies” from her last book, Beautiful. How great she captures the picture of them “pushing each other aside/ falling over/ stems unable to hold their weight…” Her wonderful poems leave the reader with many lasting impressions.
