The Cottage brings together a gathering of snapshots and pastiches depicting the poet’s experience of lakes surrounded by cottages, people, woods, and animals. The wish-fulfillment poems represent recollections of vacations and visits to lakes that feed the poet’s imagination of what his life would be like if he owned a cottage. The book contains the stuff of nature: woods, Indian pipes, amanitas, shells, shorebirds, and other critters. It shows the poet reacting to his woodsy life, exploring, boating, a country store, swimming, all in the purview of the poet living his self-created watery existence.
Laurence W. Thomas has published books of fiction, creative nonfiction, humor, and poetry, plus many chapbooks, mostly poetry. He has taught writing at colleges and universities in Michigan, Florida, Uganda, Costa Rica, and Saudi Arabia. Thomas has been lecturing on poetry at the Lucidity Poets’ Retreat in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, for 18 years, and is founder and editor of Third Wednesday, a literary arts journal.
