The Siren Sonnets is a collection of sonnets presented through the mythological persona of a Siren. It is a book of poems of longing and desire, thwarted and found.

*****
Cindy Bosley‘s work runs over with associations that are as earthy, deep and wise as an oak shaded grove-and as homey and idiosyncratic as a patchwork quilt. She’s always surprising me with a new angle of view.”
–Joy Parker, PhD., poet, and professor, Owens Community College
*****
Cindy Bosley‘s Siren Sonnets whip up a turbulent storm of desire and erotic rapture. And the unsuspecting reader had better beware-lash yourself to the mast, or even better, let yourself come crashing to her shore, to her longed for and terrifying embrace, her “nightmare couplets.” Bosley’s Siren is calling you, listening carefully for your response, viewing you from her “scaffolding and handmade skies complete / with balconies…” You’ll be amazed and astonished by what you find there.
–Leonard Kress, author of The Orpheus Complex, Braids & Other Sestinas, and Living in the Candy Store, among others.

Cindy Bosley grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa, and has been writing poetry since childhood. She graduated from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 1991. After leaving her tenured teaching job in Toledo to be an at-home parent to daughters who are regular inspirations in the form of Emma, Isabel, and Molly, Cindy Bosley also quilts and creates dollhouse miniatures. Cindy Bosley‘s poetry has appeared in several academic and literary journals, and she has two essays published in a college composition textbook. One of the poems in this collection, “Siren, Jealous,” was first published in Flyway Literary Journal under the title, “You Don’t Have to Leave the Room.” She’s written several one-act plays for campus productions, and twice attended the Squaw Valley Community of Writers Conference in the late ’80s. Bosley gives a thankful nod of literary merit and friendship to Karen Bender, Joy Parker, Sheryl St. Germain, Leonard Kress, Carl Dietrich, Kayla Williams, Loren Gladson, Craig Combs, Shannon Smith, Hod and Pat Doering, Todd Hickman, and many others, including those of the Toledo community of poets and artists. She’s been meeting with a small group of writing workshop peers in Toledo for more than 20 years.

2 reviews for The Siren Sonnets by Cindy Bosley

  1. Kerry Trautman

These poems are carefully-crafted without sacrificing warmth for cleverness. They are intelligent, but not didactic. They are flesh and blood.

  2. Sam Wright

Bosley creates a siren whose psyche is wracked by desires and cravings that are nearly beyond her control. Destined to destroy, this siren yearns for something more tender. This is collection of intriguing poems that will leave the reader wondering just who is victim.
