The Slow Talk of Stones
by Sheri L. Wright
$14, paper
Sheri L. Wright searches for what is discarded and overlooked, for what is perceived as having no value, feeling that these things can often be a source of interest, even beauty for those who choose a different approach in seeing their surroundings. Looking for what is hidden, discarded, or considered to have no worth by the mainstream POV, she strives to create images that are constructed from an altered awareness of the ordinary. Wright’s photography is forthcoming in The Single Hound.
Wright is also the author of one full-length book of poetry and four chapbooks including her most recent, The Slow Talk of Stones, by Finishing Line Press. Her works of poetry also appear in Chiron Review, Clark Street Review, Darkling, Earth’s Daughters, New Southerner, Out of Line, among others.
She has been a guest poet on Accents, at 88.1 WRFL out of Lexington, Kentucky, and on Janice Lee’s “Featuring the Arts” on WSKV in Stanton, Kentucky. She has won awards from Green River Writers, Jesse Poets, and the Kentucky State Poetry Society. She has read extensively throughout the Kentucky/Indiana area and has also appeared at New York City’s Cornelia Street Café.
Wright has taught poetry workshops for the Kentucky State Poetry Society, Kentucky Young Writer’s Connection, and Women in Transition. She has been the judge in the poetry division in The Golden Nibs for the Virginia Writers Club and Green River Writers writing contest. She is a regional chair for the Kentucky State Poetry Society and was co-chair for their adult poetry contest for 2011. Wright is the host of From The Inkwell, a one-hour radio show dedicated to all things literary on CHRadio 1650 AM, live-streaming at www.CrescentHillRadio.com. Wright also works as a freelance editor and has been a volunteer editor for NPR’s “This I Believe.”
