WIND IN THE CAVE by James B. Nicola
$18.99
To every heart that’s ever been broken: read James B. Nicola’s Wind in the Cave. With the courage of a lion tamer and the precision of a neurosurgeon, Nicola delves into one of the most invisible and personal of battles. These poems are willing to enter the cave, to be wrestled by darkness, to be lost and unpetalled and burned. And Nicola writes them with such lush language, such subtle meters, that we find ourselves hypnotized. There’s no rush to “make it feel better,” this is a book for letting the heart feel as it feels, “stung by sweet storms,” pinned beneath the real weight of great loss.
–Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer, Poet Laureate of Colorado’s Western Slope (2015-2017), author of Even Now and The Miracle Already Happening
“The poems in James Nicola‘s latest collection transport us to both familiar places and places we’ve never been before. There is something to admire in each and every offering. An accomplished poet, Nicola is also a keen observer of his own humanity, which makes him a keen observer of us all. Read these poems and listen well.”
— Chocolate Waters, “The Poet Laureate of Hell’s Kitchen”
Nicola’s The Wind in the Cave is smart and strange, full of wise asides, keen observations, and small talk confessions, all riding historical-sounding meter and rhyme. The poems are often arrestingly poignant, while their form keeps them lilting along with a calm confidence. A weird and beautiful book.

The Wind In a Cave by Nicola is filled with poems that anyone can relate to. My personal favorite is A Certain Disposition, because no matter how dark life may seem there is always light to give you hope around the corner. I would highly recommend this book to someone who is in love with poetry.
