Through moving poems that dive deep into the poet’s memories, GHOST HEART explores themes of love, loss and family – from his mother’s drug addiction to his wife’s battle with cancer to his own close call with death, Ghost Heart seeks redemption in accepting the past and the lessons it teaches. Heartfelt and honest, the author looks unflinchingly at his own life and in so doing helps each of us look at ours.
Richard Russeth is a poet and lives in southwestern Ohio with Charlotte, his wonderful wife of 20+ years. He loves all things literary and magical from David Foster Wallace to David Blaine. He bakes bread in his spare time. Sometimes, he likes a dry martini. While he has had poems published in places as diverse as Ultramarathoning and the Zen Mountain Record, this is his first collection of poetry. You can follow him @rqusseth on Instagram.
PRAISE:
.
With a spare touch, Russeth writes of and with his heart in all its forms—tired muscle, betrayed ghosts, a lover’s sleep, a mother lost to drugs—blurring and merging until they become one. Ghost Heart masterfully carves moments from time, and lets us touch them, hold them, become them. From grief to joy, Russeth’s heart reaches for the sun, and, as these poems remind us, that’s what hearts must do. Tender, loving, and gracefully unflinching.–Willie Carver, Jr., poet and author of Gay Poems for Red States and the novel Tore All To Pieces
The carefully crafted poems of Ghost Heart explore the loss of time, the loss of loved ones and Russeth’s own brush with death, but without losing hope. Ghost Heart is a brilliant collection of spot-on observations, stark emotions, and stellar words of resilience that we all need to read.–Chrissie Anderson Peters, author of Dog DaysandDragonflies and Running from Crazy
