PRAISE:
.
Rare Frequencies is a heartbreaking sequence of poems, yet there is wonder and abiding love here too. Sara Shea is a gifted poet, her work filled with striking images and exquisite music, and this excellent debut deserves a wide and appreciative audience.
.
Stillness and shimmer. Music and the loose notes that make it. Bounty and restraint. Form and the absence of form. These are some of things that animate these poems and the story they tell of a mother and daughter and a chorus of providers in the manyness of the world. These poems sing of the lives they forge both in that abundance and despite it, beautiful and true.

“Shea captures the poignant ache and soaring exultation embodied by parents whose kids are neurodivergent. Those on similar journeys will find her words express their own deepest feelings. In the natural world, Shea finds reflections of her many experiences birthing and raising a rare child. Beautifully written, this is a balm for the soul.”
–Sarah Spear, Spokesperson for Wiedemann-Steiner Syndrome Foundation
