My oldest sister, Carol, had hiked the Camino in Spain before, but in 2017 she asked me to join her to do it again. I could only spare about three weeks, and so we planned to meet in León in September from where, together, we would complete the journey of approximately 200 miles to Santiago de Compostela. As you will see in these pages, brother (67) and sister (76) succeeded. I’m remembering here those days from the diary I kept. We were just two of more than 300,000 who trekked the Camino that year. This was our inspiring experience of that ageless pilgrimage. #poetry #Camino #hiking #siblings #booktok

He makes his home in Port Townsend, WA.

PRAISE:

A wonderful collection that captures the spirit of The Way. John’s poems rise from the road. They speak of departure and arrival, solitude and companionship, thresholds crossed, “tantalizing trails of transgression” and the luminous nature of the ordinary. Camino Days is a love song to pilgrimage.
—Stephanie Dale, founder of Writing for the Brave and the annual Walk & Write Camino
