Patti Clay Miller is a Kentucky poet who has been enamored with poetry since she was a child. She loves to travel with her husband of 43 years and is spending her retirement thinking up adventures for her grandkids and buying as many poetry books as she can. This is her debut collection.
PRAISE:
Patti Clay Miller ends her poignant meditation on her father in A Crooked Spoon with, “because of you”. From the onset to the closing, hers is a bottomless cup of gratitude, love, and grief. Miller dances between silent, remote observation and deep participation. Take a boat heading home to an emergency room in the poem “When It Happened”. Here her use of space pauses us, seems to disengage—yet invites us into a sense of danger. She tells a story of a bonded pair, herself and her stricken father, where communication is strained, yet more intimate, all blanketed in recollections of family, faith, childhood. She dares open her heart and questions reality in a manner as dignified as hands “gently folded.” Patti Clay Miller’s work is a testament, fragrant with its memory, seeking peace “void of tension and strain.”
