As a professional, I am dedicated to public libraries and the power of welcoming spaces. As the Chief Operating Officer of the Urban Libraries Council, I work every day to advocate for leaders to invest in the right to literacy, the power of community and access to stories, skills and information. Public libraries are an essential asset, an American innovation and our shared compass to navigate this complex human experience. Writing poetry invites and embraces the opportunity to quiet and build awareness of the many forces that shape our conciseness and choices. This collection was built from those moments as I exhale lessons learned from both joy and hardship, wonder and grief. As a writer, I return again and again to the path of a poet which is a journey into compassion and clarity. Meditations on Rising is my first chapbook and part of a larger collection.

Meditations on Rising traces the journey that so many women now face in navigating divorce later in life after decades of marriage. The poems focus on gathering oneself after collapse—and how attention itself becomes an act of resistance. These poems are thoughtful reckonings on motherhood, shedding the histories we carry and the personal responsibility to hold grief with wonder. The book explores rising as a return: to breath, to voice and to agency. Faith, too, is reimagined—not as certainty, but as practice: patience, forgiveness, silence, and the daily labor of choosing life over bitterness. Meditations on Rising is a courageous witness to what it takes to rise—not by leaving pain behind, but by learning how to live honestly within it. #poetry #marriage #divorce
