“Trish Broome walks us through the stages of grief and healing in her chapbook, Nine Months of Kimchi and Crying. Her poignant poems show us the importance of the little things, like fragments of one’s world after it shatters.”

“Trish Broome‘s Nine Months of Kimchi and Crying is a poignant and sentimental tribute to her mother. She shares the realities of what happens when one loses a parent; her raw honesty makes each piece especially powerful. Korean culture is visible throughout, like how traditional foods brought comfort and fond memories. This chapbook is an important piece of art. I highly recommend adding it to your collection.”

Nine Months of Kimchi and Crying is a tender, unflinching meditation on grief, love, and inheritance. In these poems, Trish Broome captures moments in time and gently twists them into something both intimate and universal, reflecting on life through adult eyes while honoring what we learn as daughters and what we sacrifice—and leave behind—as mothers. Written in the first nine months after her mother’s death, this collection gives moving tribute to a life that shaped her, even as it traces the raw terrain of loss. Broome finds beauty in what remains, in what every living being leaves behind, and transforms sorrow into something clear, resonant, and deeply human.
