Sandy White grew up in Landenberg, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware. She earned a BFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Her painting and pastel website is: www.sandywhitefineart.com In 2022 she received an MFA in Creative Writing/Poetry from Dominican University of California. While at Dominican, she discovered Adelaide Crapsey and her creation of the American Cinquain. Adelaide wrote 28 known cinquains before her death in 1914, at age 36, from tuberculosis. Sandy has written close to 200 cinquains and sends Adelaide a heart-felt, respectful thank-you.
PRAISE:
The long-neglected American Cinquain, with its demanding format, is, like haiku, both difficult and liberating. After all, what is a game without rules? It has been a delight to watch Sandy White resurrect this enchanting (and challenging) form – and even more so, to see her master it!
