PRAISE:
“It’s rare to come across a poet with the natural gift for writing verse that Cindy Glovinsky possesses, with her sharp eye and knack for creating vivid imagery. What’s even rarer is a poet who can also tell a good story, who can present believable, relatable characters and give a sense of a life fully lived. The Murmuring Door is a book you will want to own.”
–Richard Tillinghast, author of The Stonecutter’s Hand, Night Train to Memphis, and many other books.
“Cindy Glovinsky has written a captivating book that reads like a memoir in verse. The ‘hostile smells’ and the ‘ecstatic embraces’ of a childhood in Iowa as a violin player, of marriage, of motherhood, of institutional sexism, of familial tensions are rendered in beautifully exact language. Glovinsky’s craft and care transforms memory into an immersive experience. These poems are moving, memorable. I will carry them with me for a long time.”
–Eduardo C. Corral, author of Guillotine.
.“If, as the ancients had it, the unexamined life is not worth living, Cindy Glovinsky’s examination of her life has merited poetic longevity. In this collection, she confronts the yin and yang of her many lives: daughter, mother, sister, twice married spouse, accomplished violinist, and heartbroken coed with a doomed infatuation for a professor. All this is delivered to us readers in clear, precise, poetic language. Cindy takes us on a journey through her fascinating time on our planet. We are all made better for the ride.”
–Charlie Brice, author of A Brief History of the Sixties
